CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – University of Northern Iowa’s Joey Lazor and Ryan Loder picked up wins against No. 7 Missouri, but the team ultimately fell 27-9.
“We are looking forward to getting this behind us,” said head coach Doug Schwab. “We can get this turned around. These are the guys we will face at the national level, so we will look to get ready for this kind of competition in the weeks ahead.”

UNI moved into 21st in the rankings this week after beating then-ranked No. 13 Oklahoma and No. 21 Northwestern last week.

Lazor pinned Trevor Jauch in 3 minutes, 45 seconds to get the Panthers on the board.

“He got the control early, and Missouri had a plan on top,” said Schwab. “Some younger, less-experienced guys may have lost with the move Trevor Jauch used, but he rode it right through. Lazor is a guy who can wrestle out of it. He got the pin, and that was huge.”

Loder upset Mike Larson, who is ranked one spot ahead of Loder.

“It took him until the end, but he was awarded,” said Schwab. “It was a good win for him. We’d like him to widen that gap even more.”

Missouri’s top-ranked wrestlers were unable to win bonus points when facing Ryan Jauch at 125 pounds and Blayne Beale at heavyweight.

“They hung right in there,” Schwab said. “Missouri wasn’t able to widen the gap in the matches they probably expected.”
Ryan Jauch lost by decision to No. 3 Alan Waters, and Beale faced the top-ranked wrestler in the nation. Dom Bradley, Missouri’s heavyweight, took an Olympic redshirt last year.

The Panthers head to South Dakota State Feb. 1.
